The experience behind Reciprocal

Sam started his career at Alpha before moving into foreign exchange at American Express, and went on to found Reciprocal in 2023 alongside former Amex colleagues who shared a simple belief: businesses deserve better than being treated as a transaction.

He has a keen eye for detail and is highly solution-focused, and enjoys working with clients across the full spectrum, from a simple rate improvement or a business loan quote, through to more complex, elegant solutions that combine currency risk management with ROI-focused lending to help businesses scale over the long term.

Outside of work, Sam is a devoted family man. He and his wife have two young children, with plans for four (gluttons for punishment, some might say). He's an avid foodie with a love of wine, whisky, and travelling the world.

John brings over 17 years of experience at American Express, supporting thousands of businesses and managing foreign exchange volumes exceeding £2 billion. As a Senior Sales Manager, he achieved the highest total revenue across American Express International Payments in 2021.

At Reciprocal, John combines his expertise with a personal, responsive approach, building lasting client relationships. He helps businesses manage currency fluctuations, reduce FX risk and protect profit margins through tailored solutions, including forward contracts and market orders, providing greater cost and profit certainty.

Outside of work, John is a proud Nottingham Forest fan, so he is no stranger to stress and emotional turbulence. He is also a big lover of his German Shepherd, Kenzo, who becomes “Kenneth” whenever he is being particularly cheeky and decides chasing the local wildlife is his full-time job.

John has two daughters, who are his world, and he also enjoys playing snooker. He is still awaiting that elusive 147, although at this rate, he may need to live to 147 to actually hit one.

Tom brings over a decade of corporate sales experience, specialising in foreign exchange and international payments since joining American Express in 2017. His career includes roles at American Express and Western Union, progressing to Senior Business Development Manager at American Express in 2022. He has supported businesses with combined annual foreign exchange payment volumes exceeding £100 million, giving him a strong understanding of what clients need from their payments partner: reliable execution, responsive service and clear communication.

Tom's family ties to Poland and Spain have given him an understanding of both languages, though neither side is likely to appoint him as an interpreter. He enjoys football, proudly supports the current Premier League champions and follows Formula 1.
